What is Halcion?

Halcion is a sedative and hypnotic of the benzodiazepine structure. Its additional effects are muscle relaxant, anticonvulsant and anxiolytic.

What is Halcion used for?

The main actions of Halcion drug are:

• Inhibition of motor nerves and muscle function

• Anticonvulsant effect (taking the drug helps suppress epileptogenic activity)

• Beneficial effect on sleep quality (the number of spontaneous awakenings decreases, the period of falling asleep becomes shorter, the duration of sleep increases)

• Reduction of symptomatology of neurotic origin (anxiety, unreasonable fear, anxiety, emotional tension)

• Inhibition of polysynaptic spinal reflexes

• Reduction of excitability of subcortical structures of the brain;

• Stimulation of benzodiazepine receptors.

When taking therapeutic doses of Halcion pill, the respiratory and cardiovascular systems are not inhibited. 

When is the Halcion drug prescribed?

Halcion Triazolam is prescribed for sleep disorders. With temporary insomnia caused by stress, the drug is prescribed a short course. As part of the complex therapy, the drug should be taken for a long time.

What contraindications of Halcion?

Triazolam (Halcion) is not prescribed in the following cases:

• Severe depression (against the background of taking the drug, some patients have suicidal thoughts)

• The acute form of respiratory failure

• Pulmonary pathologies

• Closed-angle glaucoma

• Myasthenia gravis

• Symptoms of acute intoxication with CNS-depressant drugs

• Symptoms of acute alcohol intoxication

• Allergies to components of the product

Halcoin pills should be taken with caution in case of liver dysfunction, sleep apnea, and the propensity to develop chemical dependence.

Do not use the drug in the first trimester of pregnancy due to the fact that the risk to the fetus exceeds the possible benefits to the health of the mother. Lactation against the background of taking the drug stops.

How should the drug be taken?

Triazolam Halcion is intended for internal use. Dosage regimen and duration of therapy depend on the tolerability of the components of the drug; clinical effect; indications.

Initially, the minimum dosage (0.125-0.25 mg) is prescribed. The maximum daily dosage is 1 mg. The minimum dosage is prescribed for elderly and impaired patients.

Halcion drug is taken 1 time/24 hours before bedtime.

What are the possible side effects?

During taking Triazolam Halcion, adverse reactions from the gastrointestinal tract, heart and blood vessels can occur.

A person may complain of liver pain, as well as stool disorders, nausea, belching, or dry mouth. At the beginning of therapy, the patient complains of decreased concentration. They tire easily and complain of dizziness and vague headaches. The gait becomes unsteady, coordination of movements is impaired, motor and mental reactions are slowed. 

In some cases, tremors are present, and the mood becomes depressed. Consciousness becomes confused, sometimes dystonic extrapyramidal reactions appear. 

After completion of therapy, withdrawal syndrome sometimes develops. Paradoxical reactions are observed: the person becomes very excited, aggressive. Fears and suicidal thoughts are present. Even rarer, hallucinations occur.

What else do you need to keep in mind?

When undergoing therapy, it is recommended to refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages. In the case of hepatic (renal) insufficiency, monitoring of peripheral blood counts is required.

Drug dependence is formed with prolonged treatment or with the use of large doses. There is also a risk for people who abuse alcohol-containing products.

Halcion drug should not be stopped abruptly: otherwise, a withdrawal syndrome is formed, which in the most severe cases is combined with epileptic seizures, paresthesias and derealization.

If aggressive outbursts, severe seizures, and panic attacks occur, treatment should be discontinued. It’s necessary to refrain from driving vehicles for the duration of therapy. 

The drug should be stored in a cool dry place, away from UV rays.
